All Songs American ’n more is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Sally Schaefer and guitarist Stu Weissman.
Ms. Schaefer is one serious musician. She presently performs with numerous groups in many genres including bluegrass (Buffalo Bluegrass Allstars and Creek Bend), Celtic tinged alternative (McCarthyizm), acoustic guitar original music (Bill Ward), as well as
hip-hop, polka, punk and beyond. This performance diversity is fueled by her desire to understand the origins and influences of the music as she has earned a master’s degree in ethnomusicology.
Most Pausa regulars will be familiar with Stu Weissman, who in spite of the typecast jazz guitarist label has also been exploring multiple musical genres including Western swing and bluegrass which have intersecting influences. Their current collaboration is providing each with new presentations and will highlight Sally as both songstress and violinist in the Great American Songbook tradition. Her Americana repertoire includes the music of Doc Watson, Emmylou Harris, and others providing Stu with a rich source of new inspiration. An evening of violin and guitar would not be complete without the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephanne Grappelli, hence “... ’n more”. Seasoned musicians including bassist James Benders. Familiar songs with new twists. As Ira Gershwin wrote “Who could ask for anything more?”.
